Wow, this month flew by, and now we’re already in October? When did that happen? Anyways, it was a slow reading month for me. I’ve just been really busy with life and all the upcoming holidays.
Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

This was at once a massive slog for me to get through and a really good book. At 15, I would have been in love. This is an outstanding YA title, but don’t get it twisted: this is NOT enemies to lovers. It’s barely even rivals to lovers; she asks him out like 10 pages in. But the writing is really good!
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I couldn’t find anything new in this particular story. Which is fine—I read plenty of fantasy that doesn’t reinvent the wheel. But for something so iconic, I was at least expecting The Name of the Wind to do the wheel quite well. Maybe some chrome rims or a flashy spoke design. Instead, I found the MC deeply annoying, the women (few that there were) underdeveloped, the magic system derivative, and the conflict cookie-cutter.

Crossing Acheron by HG Bride

The first couple of chapters were so gorgeously written that I thought I had found another 5-star book. But that was followed by a noticeable slowdown in the middle that left me somewhat conflicted. Mail-order Minotaur by Lilith Stone

What a delightful read! If you’re in search of a predictable, low-conflict, happily-ever-after story, this one’s tailor-made for you. But fret not; besides being overwhelmingly adorable, it still maintains its steamy allure. Perhaps I should’ve included this in my books to read in the fall, as I believe it’s the perfect book to enjoy all snug on the couch while indulging in those Halloween cookies – if you’re in the right monster-loving demographic.

I’m new to the romance genre but it has intrigued me lately. Mail Order Minotaur might have to go on my to try list.

Haha, honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking when I picked it up as an ARC on BookSirens, but it turned out to quite cute and wholesome for a monster romance. I would definitely recommend it!
