First, I went into this book expecting nothing and got something?? Honestly, I tend to be critical in my reviews, but man they tore this one up on goodreads lol. The plot is ok: a protective veil guarding the humans and fae shatters, resulting in the fae flocking to find their mates.

“There was quite literally no plot in this book. It was practically just the main character camping for 300 pages.
For a romance, the love interest was absolutely unlikeable. I felt like I was being gaslit into thinking there was any chemistry between him and the mc.” –goodreads
I laughed at this review because its so true; seriously I’m on page 132/312 and she’s only been ‘camping’ with the love interest. I was quite enjoying this book at first but it is really starting to slow down and I’m either going to have to force myself to finish it or give up. I was tiktok influenced again by the who did this to you trope (which as of now has not happened yet). So, I thought it was going to fully lead into this trope and be more of a trashy romance rather than try to be a well written fantasy. Which, people were saying this book was not well written but I disagree the writing isn’t thaaaaat bad it’s just not a fantastic book.
The book is woefully predictable, but I like predictable for my smutty, trashy romance books. I guess I should’ve known from the the title and cover that this wasn’t that kind of book. Honestly, the male love interest, Caelum, isn’t bad at all, but with the whole premise of fated mates, its quite frustrating because I just want her to hurry up and get idk kidnapped into the fae realm already.
I think with the current level of fantasy young/new adult writing, it’s harder for authors to get away with not having excellent world building and deeply developed characters. This book would’ve been exactly what I wanted if it had fit more into the adult romance genre. Ironically, due to the decent writing and semi-decent world building at the beginning, I had high expectations that just weren’t met.
I will continue after I either finish the book or give up on it..
Also, why are we naming all these books the same thing?! The series is called Of Flesh and Bone. I swear I’m starting to go crazy thinking oh didn’t I read that already? NO, I did not.
Update: I did not finish, and I will not finish, but I’ll leave it at 2.5 stars because I don’t feel like changing it. I had this one in my drafts for a bit, so figured I would just go ahead and post it.

haha I was laughing at your review because it was so true. This book really had a good beginning but I believe the author just got lazy and uncreative.
