The highly-anticipated, genre-defining omegaverse manga, in English at last! From beloved BL author Maki Marukido (Pornographer) comes a story steeped in secrets, lies, and family drama. Saimon, an omega, is shunned by his husband’s family for being unable to bear children. But when his father-in-law tasks him with a special favor, it pushes Saimon to spin a tangled web of deception–all to keep his place in the family.
In a world where people have one of three sexes–alpha, beta, or omega–in addition to being male or female, alphas have pushed their way to the top. Omegas are oppressed, their status determined by whether or not they successfully bear alpha children. An omega named Saimon marries into the prolific Hanabusa family, a major conglomerate, but is unable to produce an heir for his alpha husband Seijuro, and is shunned as a “Megaera,” a creature that brings ill fortune. One day, Saimon is summoned by the family patriarch Zenjiro and ordered to locate the man’s illegitimate son. Saimon finds the boy, Mamiya, who has been making a life for himself on the streets while hiding the fact that he’s an omega. Desperate to regain his position as Seijuro’s top spouse, Saimon proposes an audacious plan: pass Mamiya off as an alpha heir and try to gain the headship of the Hanabusa family.
This acclaimed and highly-anticipated manga is both a top-flight omegaverse thriller and an interrogation and deconstruction of the genre, accounting for the social and political consequences of the setting–and even provoking the reader to consider what they have to say about our own world.

Not my cup of tea.
The Basics:
Art: 5/5
Characters: 3/5
Saimon, the MC, is extremely well-written, but I personally struggled to find any of the characters particularly likable.
Story/Plot: 3/5
Honestly this deserves a higher rating… It just was too heavy for me.
The story is well articulated and thoughtfully constructed in a way we don’t often see in BL (although the author has stated this isn’t truly a BL, as romance is not the main focus). The setting is unique and compelling.
That said, this is a very heavy read. It tackles gender roles, societal expectations, fucked up wealthy families, and what it means to be an omega in an aggressively oppressive, alpha-dominated society. Omegas are branded at birth on the back of the neck. The story also includes extremely heavy themes such as rape, child abuse, child marriage, and multiple spouses.
The mangaka has a real talent for storytelling, and I would absolutely love to read their other works.
Writing/Dialouge: 4/5
“You want to talk about barbaric? Try politics for pillow talk.”
Extras:
Giggles & Sweetness: 0/5
Spice: 1/5
No in-detail panels
Second-hand Embarrassment: 0/5
in conclusion
TL;DR: Extremely well-written and well-executed. Highly recommended for fans of the genre, though it was ultimately too heavy for me.
