I’ve been away visiting family abroad, so I haven’t had much time to post lately. My schedule is completely out of whack! Plus, I recently got this new air fryer/oven gadget and I’ve been engrossed in baking experiments. But fear not, plenty of reviews will be coming soon since I brought back a bunch of books from my trip.
Romantic Comedy

This romcom came highly recommended as a smarter, less silly version of a romcom–which I was skeptical of, because isn’t that the point of a romcom? While the writing in this was really very good and it was very fun to go behind the curtain of SNL, I didn’t find this main character particularly likeable, nor did I find her problems/internal conflict investigated in an interesting way. I didn’t find the love story particularly fun either, and there’s an email exchange in the middle that’s supposed to illustrate the characters falling in love that just dragged until I was skimming–and you know what?? I missed nothing!! What promised to be a romance full of substance was surprisingly empty of anything particularly meaty.
Hell Bent

I took so long to read the sequel to Ninth House because I hate hate hate the cover. I can’t believe they’ve kept it. That said, I cried on my morning commute reading the end bit, and Bardugo has sooo upped her game with this series. I am in love with it, the writing is amazing, it’s gritty, it’s dark academia, it’s quoteable…a great book after a long drought!
