This is officially the last day of the reread for the first book in the series! I finished late last night because I wanted to pop in and write down my thoughts upon finishing the first book. It’s going to be a chaotic stream of consciousness—but better than nothing!

LUCIEN! I have spent years feeling mildly bewildered as to why everyone—including Miss Maas herself—was so into him. In the beginning of ACOTAR, when Feyre is first discovering the wide and wonderful world of Prythian, I get it. He’s charismatic and deeply traumatised, ironic and doesn’t coddle her. I wavered when she was under the mountain and he didn’t come to help her, but Sarah J. Maas worked hard to illustrate that he quite physically couldn’t after his lashings. Honestly, if ***** ends up with him instead of ****** I won’t even be that mad.

Tamlin’s behaviour is even more inexplicable the second time around. She was wearing literal PAINT, and you thought it was a good idea, in your only stolen moment with Feyre, to…sneak away for a quick f***??? Also I know it’s his leadership style, but Tamlin begging—several times throughout the book—just gives me major ick. Though ripping out Amarantha’s through did slightly compensate for that.

Also, the fact that he doesn’t teach her to read is utterly baffling to me.

I think knowing what happens in the rest of the series was definitely influencing me, because even though Tamlin was genuinely swoon-worthy for most of the book and it was clear Miss Mass was working hard to make us readers fall in love with him…my gaze belonged to another.

Rhys is somehow hotter than I remembered. That’s all I’ll say about our feminist king.

My physical copy of this book is highlighted to shit, and I’m convinced there’s significance to her repeating three times that the humans in the world of Prythian don’t remember the names of their long-forgotten gods.
