I was doing my usual perusing of amazon when I stumbled upon webtoon books (literally what do you even label these?). I was so surprised by the fact that they have popular and, in my opinion, very good webtoons with very good art.

I can imagine what you’re thinking: why print webtoons when they are literally called webtoons? It’s a valid question, one of many like how will the beautiful artwork look printed on paper? I have no idea but I do know that I am about to spend some money.

1. Villains Are Destined to Die

This is a webtoon I was actually hoping to review at some point because it is popular and actually really good.

“A villain living life in hard mode… whose every path leads to death.” Playing Daughter of the Duke’s Super Love Project as the easy mode heroine, Ivonne, makes charming the male characters a breeze. But once you switch to hard mode and step into the shoes of Penelope, the misunderstood villain, it’s nearly impossible to even stay alive! So imagine the shock of suddenly waking up in Penelope’s body—you know right away that your life is on the line. With love interests who will kill you if their affection meters drop too low and the inability to speak without choosing from pre-selected dialogue, it quickly becomes clear that Penelope’s chances have been rigged from the start—and this villain might just be destined to die!

When I first saw it I was like Oh they have it on Kindle for $9.99 and then I saw a paperback option for $13.90 (originally $20 looks like its on sale).

The review photos and videos seem quite impressive! However, one of the things I liked about webtoons is their lack of physical copies, so I can’t horde them. It appears I might need a larger living space now.

2. The Remarried Empress

“I ACCEPT THIS DIVORCE… AND REQUEST AN APPROVAL OF MY REMARRIAGE.” Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu: a match made in heaven, they were the two pillars of the land whom everyone believed would stand by each other through thick and thin…until a chance encounter with a beautiful girl in the forest leaves the emperor smitten! Though hurt by the betrayal, Navier’s not one to waste time wallowing in despair. And when Sovieshu requests a divorce, she has but one condition in return—permission to remarry the man of her choosing!

3. Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion

Eunha Park thought she was getting another chance at life when she awoke in the world of a novel. The only problem? Raeliana McMillan, the character she was reborn as, is fated to be killed by her fiancé! For the sake of her survival, she comes up with an idea—get into a fake marriage with a man more powerful than her groom-to-be. But when that protection comes in the form of Noah Wynknight, the duke with a warm smile and cold heart, Raeliana realizes she might be a bit in over her head…She’s going to regret this plan, isn’t she?

4. Who Made Me a Princess

The story of Athanasia, forsaken princess of the Obelian Empire, ends with her execution at the hands of her own father–or does it? Her tragic tale is the plot of the novel The Lovely Princess. But now, a modern woman who read the book has just woken up as baby Athanasia herself, filled with her own memories and knowledge of the story she’s stuck in! Determined to survive her doomed fate, infant Athanasia embarks on this new life with a plan: avoid attention and hoard valuables to fund her escape. When her plan goes awry, she suddenly needs to charm her way into the good graces of her father, the beautiful tyrant emperor, so he doesn’t kill her again!

5. My Gently Raised Beast

When Blondina is revealed to be a long-lost princess, she hopes to say good-bye to the miserable life of an orphan. But all that awaits her in the palace is bullying and ridicule for her common background, and the cold, condescending gaze of her father, the emperor. Her first and only friend is a black cat she meets in the garden. Though Amon has a big attitude for a little ball of fur, he’s the perfect buddy she always wanted. And the best part—he can talk! But just when she thought her little friend couldn’t be any more special—FLASH!—Blondina finds herself staring at the most handsome boy she’s ever seen. “I told you. I’m not a cat.”

Based on the reviews, it appears that the printed versions are generally of good quality, but there might be occasional misprints, bumps, or lumps. Frankly, this isn’t too unexpected given the sheer amount of ink required for such printing. Personally, I believe webtoons are still most enjoyable when read online, and those who buy these printed versions are likely more interested in them as collectible items.
